Basic Gameplay[ | ]

There are a few important things to be aware of and consider as you first make your way into the dangerous world of Ignus. These quick first steps will help you learn how to gather resources, craft your first weapon, learn your first spells and make a party with your friends.

Gathering Resources[ | ]

The first thing you’ll want to do is start gathering the basic resources you’ll need to craft your first weapons, armors, potions and structures. Resources spawn all around the world, and can be easily picked up with the ‘E’ key. Wood, stone, rune crystal, and basic herbs are plentiful in the starting areas, and will be enough to get you started making entry-level weapons, armors and potions.

Crafting a Weapon[ | ]

Once you’ve leveled up, acquired some Knowledge Points and have gathered a decent variety of resources it’s time to craft your first weapon. Open the Knowledge Tree by pushing ‘K’ and use your points to purchase the recipe for your first weapon.

Consider the type of weapon you want to use before you select the recipe you wish to purchase. Melee weapons are strong and capable of being used without spells or loss of mana, but will eventually be outclassed by spellcasting wands, staves and gauntlets.

Once you’ve made your choice, the weapon will now be available for you to craft, provided you have the needed ingredients. Simply push ‘O’ to open your crafting menu, select the weapon in your recipe list, and hit ‘Craft’. Once the crafting is complete the weapon will be sent to your inventory. Right click it or drag it to an empty weapon slot to equip it.

Learning & Equipping Spells[ | ]

Now that you have a weapon it’s time to equip some spells to it. Once again, hit ‘K’ to open your Knowledge Tree and select the ‘Spells’ tab. Some spells only work with specific weapons, so make sure to use your points where it makes sense for you. To equip your new spell to your weapon, hit the ‘P’ button to bring up your Spellbook. From here you can equip your spell by either dragging it down to your weapon or by right clicking on it. The spell will now be bound to your mouse button, as indicated by the hotbar on the bottom of your screen.

Extract Resources[ | ]

Once you’ve reached level 5 it is advisable to leave behind the old method of collecting resources by hand and learn the ‘Extract’ spell. This spell lets you harvest trees, stones and other large deposits of resources at a much faster rate than simply picking them up from the ground, which will be essential when crafting advanced items or building large structures.

Once you have learned and equipped ‘Extract’ simply point your staff at a deposit of resources and hold the cast button. The resource will slowly fill your inventory until the deposit is depleted and removed from the world. You can also use ‘Extract’ to find rare and valuable ores within large stones.

Death[ | ]

An important thing to keep in mind while playing Citadel is that death has its consequences. Should you fall in battle you will drop all your non-equipped possessions and be forced to respawn at either a starter town or a Respawn Stone of your choice. If you die with no unequipped possessions, one or more of your equipped items will be dropped.

Currently (Aug 8, 2017) there is no death maker on map after you respawn, a bag is dropped on location at time of death and will decay in short unknown amount of time regardless of if character respawns. The bag will be dropped at whatever x,y AND z coordinates you were when you died. So look for it in the sky, if you are flying.

A Respawn Stone is a magic structure that can be constructed in your castle. To learn more about magic structures, check out the ‘Building’ section of this guide.

Tips and Tricks[ | ]

  • Create mana regeneration items early to help reduce the amount of mana potions you have to craft.
  • Trees are a great source of potion components. You can also pickup off the ground while your extracting to maximize your resource collecting.
  • Experiment with the different weapon class to find your ideal "class" of choice. This will become more apparent as you level up(30+).
  • Building a small wood structure early on is a great way to gain XP in the early levels.
  • Be wary of your vertical speed when dismounting from Broom/flying potion, ground impact death is very real!
